‘Persevera y alcanzaras’ those were my
mother’s words. In other words, with a
little perseverance and self-determination, one may accomplish any goal one may
strive for. My mother was a very strong woman and inspired me to overcome
obstacles by instilling in me the belief that with perseverance and self-determination
anything is possible. As an educator, I
would like to convey the same powerful message to inspire children with special
needs to reach their full potential. I
want to instill the belief that with a little perseverance and
self-determination anything is possible.
One of my goals is to create an atmosphere where children with
disabilities are able to learn at their own rate while encouraging their dreams
and aspirations despite their disabilities and the difficulties they face. It is essential that students feel proud of
who they are and where they come from. I made the decision to become an
Educational Diagnostician to promote awareness and inspire exceptional children
to make something of themselves.
In
my mind, all children are like plants- we might not be able to tell how much
they have grown in one single day, but overtime we’ll be able to see how much
they have bloomed and how much they have grown.
As with plants, some might be already blooming, others might still be a
seed but under the right condition they all can grow, bloom and give fruits. In
other words, all children have the capabilities to learn and grow no matter
where they come from or their background.
Given the right opportunities and by modifying the instruction, the
children who are motivated will be able to learn and succeed. It is up to them to learn the material but it
is up to the teacher to have high expectations and to modify the instruction to
help the student to achieve their dreams.
I like to think of teachers as the essential pieces to an intricate
puzzle that inspires students to become great successful leaders and not
followers. Getting a good education is a
legacy that we leave with our students and no one can take it away!
Part of my mission has always
been to motivate the children’s curiosity and at the same time, tie in the
lesson’s real life examples to relate the importance of the academic content in
their daily lives. The lessons should be
designed to engage the students in an enjoyable environment that promotes learning
and thinking outside the box. It is a
choice to make learning enjoyable and include real world examples once a
positive classroom environment has been established. This can be accomplished
by getting to know the students on a personal level which in turn will create
valuable opportunities to learn, and teach them self-determination to succeed. It is my belief that students should work towards
reaching their full potential rather than just passing a test. Students are the future of tomorrow and it is
our duty to ensure that the will be prepared for anything that comes right at
them. They are being educated to dream
BIG and they need to look around and learn from positive role models. Many students do not need to be superheroes
they just need to believe in themselves and be proud of whom they are.
Another goal entering this field is to become a Bilingual
Educational Diagnostician. I worked for
the past ten years as a bilingual teacher.
So, I would love to become a special education teacher and then pursue a
career as a diagnostician. I am
confident I possess the knowledge and skills necessary in this field, after
all, I have taught for ten years, and I know this is my calling. Teaching is a very rewarding profession and at
the same time challenging. This field
offers many opportunities to bring out the best in students although at times
it may take lots of patient, hard work, and love for what you do. However, it is an amazing feeling when you
finally rip the fruits of your hard work.
